This scenario is one example of why – to save customers time and make their lives easier – Ford and Panasonic System Communications Company of North America, a division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, are testing an industry-first Smart Service Kiosk aimed at increasing customer convenience related to vehicle service. The kiosk allows customers to come to the dealership at any time to drop off and pick up their vehicle key or obtain keys to a loaner vehicle, select needed services from a quick-pick menu, and pay for service using a credit or debit card. XL Hybrids Chooses F-150 for PHEV Powertrain

XL Hybrids, Inc. has decided to pair its XLP plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain with Ford’s F-150 pickup, the vehicle modifier has announced. The vehicle will be available in the fourth quarter.m-xlhybrids-xlp-fordf150-3

The XLP fleet-ready technology is the industry’s first ship-thru upfit on pickup trucks from a leading OEM, according to XL Hybrids. XL Hybrids announced it would offer a PHEV pickup in December.

“After securing order commitments from our leading fleet customers, we made the decision to begin production on the popular and versatile Ford F-150,” said Clay Siegert, XL Hybrids’ co-founder and chief operating officer. “Already, major fleets are placing orders to be among the first to get the PHEV on the road to positively impact their sustainability initiatives while saving on fuel costs.” Continue reading

Quest for Better Fuel Economy, Leads Ford to $200 MILLION Investment in New Wind Tunnel Complex

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 15, 2017 – Consumers’ appetite for vehicles with greater fuel efficiency and performance has led Ford to invest in a new aerodynamic testing complex that will house a next-generation rolling road wind tunnel and state-of-the-art climatic chamber. The new facility will come complete with testing advancements that better match the technological development of Ford products – both production vehicles and racing vehicles.

“This investment in new world-class test facilities underpins Ford’s ongoing commitment to advance our capabilities to continue to provide our customers with high-quality vehicles,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, global product development and chief technical officer.

The new wind tunnel complex will sit on 13 acres next to Ford’s current Driveability Test Facility in Allen Park, Michigan. The complex will house new innovative technology that delivers state-of-the-art real-world driving simulations to advance improvements in fuel economy.
